Grandma and Grandpa’s fruit trees

There was a big old mulberry tree near the fence behind the rectory; many hours were spent up there getting purple face and hands. They were magnificent mulberries. I had some silkworms at some stage too, and used to feed them leaves from that tree.

Nearby was a cherry plum tree; the pips were easily swallowed, causing some concern to a little boy - "Oops! Swallowed another one Mum!". Mum said not to worry, they would come out. I used to love that fruit.

Grape vines covered the trellis over the path from the old garage to the house. That garage disappeared when the rear of the block was sold and the church hall was built.

They had two navel orange trees had the best ever oranges. There was a peach tree too I think.
